Vancouver Canucks v Ottawa Senators Live

Entering a tough 14-game road trip, the Canucks will try to hold on to the positive momentum they built over the past few weeks. Thus, Henrik Sedin and the Vancouver Canucks will make their way to Ottawa to face the Senators at Scotiabank Place on Friday at 0:30 a.m. GMT.

Despite some injuries issues earlier in the season, the Vancouver Canucks managed to stay on track and went on to made a run to the upper echelon of the Western Conference in January. After six straight wins, Vancouver finds itself leading the Northwest Division, two points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche. One key to their recent success has been the Canucks’ ability to play at both ends of the ice and to execute down the stretch. More specifically, the Canucks are among the better defensive teams in the league at 2.3 goals per game while having no trouble finding the net either. Offensively, Daniel and Henrik Sedin have been spectacular as they combined for 124 points in 53 and 35 games respectively.

Much like Vancouver, the Senators were also able to improve their level of play by leaps and bounds over the past month. Pulling off eight consecutive wins, Ottawa climbed to the fifth place in the Eastern Conference and is hoping to stay in the race for home-ice advantage. That said, the squad of coach Cory Clouston might have to tighten its defense a bit as the Senators allow their opponents to score nearly three goals per contest. Likewise, more consistent scoring at the other end would be desirable at times, especially off-season acquisition Jonathan Cheechoo failed to play up to his full potential and recorded just 13 points in 55 appearances. Taking everything into account, both teams should be on a relatively level playing field when the game between Ottawa and Vancouver gets underway on Friday night. Albeit the Canucks might be the slightly better overall team, the Senators have evidently found their rhythm as of late and will be a tough team to overcome.
