Saturday 5th March 21:00 - 00:00 GMT

After an overtime loss on opening night, the Canucks were able to bounce back with a 2-1 victory versus the Florida Panthers and are hoping to establish themselves at the top of the Western Conference right away. Considering that Vancouver posted a 49-28-5 record last year, the team around All-Star Daniel Sedin can certainly be expected to make it to the playoffs down the stretch. Thus, Daniel Sedin and the Vancouver Canucks will meet the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday at 2:30 a.m. GMT.

The Kings on the other hand won two out of three so far and have played surprisingly well at the defensive end of the ice. More precisely, L.A. only allowed 1.7 goals per contest which is a significant improvement compared to the way Anze Kopitar and company defended in 2009-10. Yet, things might get more difficult when the Kings start their five game west coast road trip next week in Phoenix. Thus, Los Angeles will try clinch its third victory in this year's NHL campaign when the Canucks are in town on Saturday night.

Albeit the Kings slowed down significantly over the past two weeks, they are still right in the playoff race and are hoping to finally make it back to the post-season in 2009-10. Thus, Anze Kopitar and the Los Angeles Kings will take on the Vancouver Canucks at Staples Center on Friday at 3:30 a.m. GMT.

Despite various obstacles in this year’s NHL campaign, the Canucks are still holding on to the third place in the Western Conference and are trying to secure home-ice advantage in the remaining two weeks of action. More precisely, Vancouver did not only face significant injury problems but also had a tough one-month road trip due to preparations for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Yet, the Canucks lead the Northwest Division as they are holding on to an excellent 45-26-4 record. Most importantly, the team around the Sedin brothers had no trouble finding the net and are among the better offensive teams at 244 goals in just 75 games. Leading all scores is All-Star Henrik Sedin who recorded 28 goals and 73 assists for a total of 101 points in 75 appearances.

In contrast, very few expected the Kings to make it back to the playoffs this year, yet the franchise from California is holding on to the seventh place in the Western Conference and could possibly climb all the way to the fifth place until the post-season kicks off. Where as L.A.’s defense is still mediocre at best, Terry Murray’s squad showed some progress at the other end of the ice. Especially Anze Kopitar managed to separate himself from the pack as he scored 33 goals and added 43 assists for a total of 76 points. Taking everything into account, the Canucks are still the superior team but will have to perform well defensively to contain the Kings’ explosive offense. Either way, fans around the league can expect an entertaining hockey game when Vancouver faces L.A. on Friday night.
