Wednesday 6th April 01:00 - 04:00 GMT
While the Canucks might have experienced some ups and downs in the first three months of this year’s NHL campaign, the franchise from British Columbia showcased a very solid overall performance and established itself right in the playoff mix. Thus, Daniel Sedin and the Vancouver Canucks are hoping to defend the first place in the Northwest Division when they visit the Edmonton Oilers on Monday at 1 a.m. GMT.

Even though the Oilers are still at the bottom of the Western Conference, the team around Dustin Penner has been making considerable progress over the last weeks. More specifically, Edmonton managed to win four of its last five regular season games and is now trailing the eight seeded Anaheim Ducks by just 6 points. That said, the Oilers’ defensive performance has still been relatively poor as they allowed opposing teams to score a whopping 3.4 goals per game. Therefore, Edmonton will most certainly have to bring its A-game to avoid a loss versus the high-scoring Canucks on Monday night.

After six losses in a row over the last two weeks, Edmonton managed to bounce back with an impressive 7-4 win over the defending Stanley Cup champions from Chicago on Friday. That said, the Oilers will have to play much better defense as they allowed their opponents to score almost 3.7 goals per contest. Thus, the Edmonton Oilers will host Daniel Sedin and the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday at 1 a.m. GMT.

Much like the Oilers, the Canucks did not get off to a particularly good start either as they lost five out of seven games to start the season before clinching two straight victories versus the Wild and Avalanche last week. One key for success down the stretch will most likely be whether the team around All-Star forward Henrik Sedin can improve its performance on the road. More precisely, Vancouver dropped four in a row away from home and often failed to provide the necessary intensity at the defensive end of the ice. Nonetheless, the Canucks will be the undisputed favorites to defeat the struggling Oilers on Wednesday.
