Whereas Boston’s 4-3 victory over the Canadiens in round one was a hard fought battle, the Bruins had little trouble eliminating the struggling Flyers in just four games in the second round. After an entire week off, Patrice Bergeron and the Boston Bruins will now host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday at midnight GMT.

Without any doubts, very few expected the Lightning to overcome the Capitals in the Conference Semifinals let alone sweeping the favorites around Alex Ovechkin. Yet, Tampa pulled off said miracle and is now confident to keep rolling in order to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals down the stretch. One key to success has been their high-scoring trio of Steven Stamkos, Martin St Louis and Vincent Lecavalier. However, the Lightning also showed a solid defensive effort while playing their rather unusual 1-3-1 system on the ice most of the time. So far, their constant puck pressure and control in the neutral zone paid dividends as Tampa Bay overcame the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals in the first two playoff rounds. Therefore, fans can look forward to a great game between the Lightning and Bruins on Wednesday night.

Without any doubts, things could have hardly gone any better for the Bruins this year. Being among the elite teams at both ends of the ice, the franchise from Massachusetts managed to take the lead in the Northeast Division and could very well enter the post-season with home-ice advantage. Looking to stay on track, the Boston Bruins will play Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning at TD Garden on Friday at midnight GMT.

Albeit hardly anyone expected Tampa to assume a contender role in this year’s NHL campaign, the team around Steven Stamkos managed to establish itself at the top of the Southeast Division. Even though the Lightning are one of the worst defensive teams in the entire league at 3.0 goals per game, they still managed to consistently close out tight games and rallied to a 37-18-7 record. Offensively, center Steven Stamkos has been on fire as he recorded 41 goals and 78 points in just 62 regular season games. Given the fact that both teams have been playing extremely well as of late, the encounter between the Bruins and Lightning is still anyone’s game on Friday.
