Even though the Blues got off a great start with back-to-back wins versus the Detroit Red Wings, the team around Keith Tkachuk slowed down in the second week of play in 2009-10. Trying to bounce back, St Louis will take on the Phoenix Coyotes at Jobing.com Arena on Friday at 2 a.m. GMT.

Much like the Blues, the Coyotes also experienced some ups and downs and looked like a wildcard on many nights. More specifically, coach David Tippett’s squad managed to beat Stanley Cup contenders like the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins, but fell to the Sabres and Blue Jackets. Nonetheless, Shane Doan and the Coyotes exceeded the expectations of their fanbase and could be in the playoff race down the stretch. Thus far, Radim Vrbata led Phoenix’s scoring sheet with three goals and one assist for a total of four points.

After dropping two straight versus the Los Angeles Kings and Atlanta Trashers, the pressure on the Blues is certainly rising. Although St Louis showed promising signs in their season opener versus the Wings, they have been struggling ever since. That said, both of their losses were contested, but ultimately the team from Missouri was unable to close out games. Led by veteran forwards Paul Kariya and Keith Tkachuk the Blues can be a dangerous offensive team on a good day, yet bringing the same effort night in and night out has been an issue. Given the fact that neither team has been particularly consistent thus far, the encounter between St Louis and Phoenix appears to be anyone’s game. Either way, the audience can expect a highly competitive battle between the Blues and Coyotes on Friday night.
