Coming off three consecutive wins versus the Senators, Devils and Predators, the Blues quietly climbed to the fourth place in the Western Conference and could very well stay in the playoff mix down the stretch. Thus, the St Louis Blues will travel to Illinois to meet Patrick Sharp and the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday at 1 a.m. GMT.

Even though most experts expected the Hawks to continue dominating the Western Conference after winning it all last season, things did not go as anticipated as the team around Patrick Sharp won just 11 out of 24 games so far. Holding on to the ninth place in the West, the Blackhawks showcased considerable defensive shortcomings and gave up 3.0 goals per contest in the first two months of regular season action. At the other end of the ice, Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane combined for 21 goals and 45 points but failed to push the team over the top. Ultimately, Chicago will have to improve its energy level and do a better job of limiting opposing offensive lines as the season goes on. Considering the aforementioned issues, fans around the league might see a fairly even game between the Blues and Hawks on Wednesday night.

After starting this year's NHL campaign with back-to-back wins versus the Philadelphia Flyers and Anaheim Ducks, St Louis experienced a slight setback as they were defeated by the Nashville Predators on Thursday. Thus, the St Louis Blues will do their best to bounce back when they take on Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday at 0:30 a.m. GMT.

In contrast, the Hawks' front-office is not happy at all with the performance of Patrick Kane and company up to this point. More precisely, Chicago has been struggling defensively and ended up losing three out of four games so far. Even though there is plenty of time for the defending Stanley Cup champions to get back on track, the team's lack of defensive intensity is still somewhat alarming. After all, it was their efficient team defense that allowed the team around Patrick Sharp to win it all in 2009-10. Therefore, fans around the league can expect the Hawks to play with a lot of energy when their game versus the Blues gets underway on Tuesday.

Four months into the season, things are certainly looking good for the Hawks as they managed to establish themselves in the upper echelon of the Western Conference, just one point behind the leading San Jose Sharks. Looking for another win, Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks will face the St Louis Blues at United Center on Thursday at 1:30 a.m. GMT.

Albeit the Blues did not improve as much as the franchise’s front-office was hoping prior to this year’s NHL campaign, St Louis is still in striking distance of a playoff spot and has been playing much better hockey as of late. More precisely, Keith Tkachuk and company recorded a decent 6-3-1 record in their last ten games and are trailing the eight seeded Calgary Flames by only four points. That said, the Blues will have to keep up their level of play to have a legitimate shot at a post-season appearance. Most importantly, their defensive efforts left much to be desired as St Louis allowed nearly 2.8 goals per contest thus far.

The Blackhawks on the other hand have much higher goals in mind than merely making it to the playoffs in 2009-10. In fact, Chicago is still in the race for the number one seed in the Western Conference and could very well turn out to be a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. Over the past month, the Hawks managed to get some separation and extended their lead over the third placed Vancouver Canucks to no less than 10 points. Unlike other elite teams, Chicago benefits from a fairly even offensive output across the board, making things even more difficult for their opponents. In conclusion, the Blackhawks will most likely have an edge in their match-up with the Blues on Thursday, yet Patrick Kane and company should not underestimate the franchise from Missouri. After all, St Louis improved considerably over the last month and is very capable of finding the net on most nights.
