Sunday 28th November 03:00 - 06:00 GMT
Having finished last year's NHL campaign as worst team in the league, there is no doubt that the Oilers' front-office is expecting a significant improvement from coach Tom Renney's squad in 2010-11. Thus, the Edmonton Oilers will take on Joe Thornton and the San Jose Sharks on Sunday at 2 a.m. GMT.

The Sharks on the other hand are once again facing the dilemma of having been the best regular season team in the Western Conference before eventually experiencing an early playoff exit. That said, San Jose will have to find a way to get past its playoff failures of recent years and focus on the task at hand. More specifically, the Sharks posted an unsatisfying 1-2-1 record so far and have been struggling to find the net. Considering that San Jose's offense features the likes of Dany Heatley, Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau, they should be able to get back on track sooner rather than later. Therefore, the Sharks will enter their encounter with the Oilers as everyone's favorites to get away with a win in Alberta on Sunday.

Even though the Sharks struggled a bit in the first two weeks of action, they subsequently made an impressive run to the top of the Western Conference. Hoping to extend their two-game winning streak, Dany Heatley and company will make their way to Edmonton to face the Oilers on Saturday at 2:30 a.m. GMT.

Unlike San Jose, the Oilers’ front-office is not overly content with the performance of Pat Quinn’s squad in the first two months of play. Five points away from the eight playoff seed in the Western Conference, Edmonton posted an unsatisfying 9-11-3 record so far and showed tremendous problems at the defensive end of the ice. More precisely, the Oilers are the third worst defensive team in the league as they allowed no less than 75 goals in just 23 games. Albeit Dustin Penner and company had no trouble scoring, they will have to perform much better defensively in order to make it back to the playoff race.
The San Jose Sharks on the other hand found their rhythm shortly after acquiring All-Star Dany Heatley and seem to be highly motivated to make some noise in this year’s NHL campaign. Most importantly, San Jose’s offense has been nearly unstoppable and led the franchise to an impressive 16-5-4 record. In fact, the Sharks average 3.6 goals per contest and did not have to rely much on their defense to win games. Especially, the trio of Dany Heatley, Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau has been spectacular so far as they combined a whopping 87 points in just 25 games. That said, San Jose’s defense did a fairly decent job of containing their opponents’ offensive lines, allowing no more than 2.4 goals per game. In conclusion, it looks like the Sharks might be a little bit too much to handle for the Oilers. After all, one of the leagues’ worst defensive teams has to go up against the best offense which will most likely not result in a happy-end for Edmonton.
