Albeit the Sharks got off to a slow start this season, it did not take them long to bounce back as they slowly climbed back to the top of the Western Conference over the past few weeks. Thus, Dany Heatley and company will face the Columbus Blue Jackets on the road on Thursday at midnight GMT.

Unlike San Jose, Columbus has been struggling at both ends of the ice in their last games. In fact, the Blue Jackets dropped three in a row versus the Kings, Penguins and Coyotes, while being outscored 14-6. That said, they are still holding on to a 6-5-1 record and are just two points away from the eight playoff spot. Although the Jackets’ scoring has been spread fairly evenly among their offensive lines, Rick Nash managed to separate himself from the pack as he recorded 8 goals and 9 assists for a total of 17 points in 12 appearances.

In contrast, San Jose made an impressive run in the last two weeks as they went on to win five consecutive games. Leading the league with 52 goals in 15 games, San Jose’s offense around NHL All-Star Dany Heatley looked very sharp and caused endless problems for their opponents. More specifically, Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau were nearly unstoppable, combining for no less than 40 points in 15 contests. Therefore, it looks like Columbus will have to pull off a stellar performance to prevent the Sharks from clinching their sixty straight victory on Thursday. Nonetheless, the Blue Jackets can be expected to give the Sharks a run for their money and could get a boost from their crowd that carried them to 3 wins in 5 home games so far.
