Clinching a 5-4 overtime win at home on Tuesday, the Washington Capitals managed to even the Eastern Conference semi-final series versus Pittsburgh at three games each. The Penguins will now make their way to Washington where the deciding game seven will get underway on Thursday at midnight GMT.

After losing games three and five in overtime, most Capitals fans were quaking in their boots when Sidney Crosby tied the game in the third period sending it to overtime. However, this time Washington refused to lose another extra period and avoided playoff elimination when David Steckel deflected the puck into the net six minutes into overtime. Having missed a similar opportunity in overtime in game five it certainly was a huge relief for Steckel who now has a total of three goals in the series.

Considering how close this series has been it is no easy task to come up with a prediction for game seven. Both teams play excellent hockey and the showdown between Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby and Washington’s Alex Ovechkin can rightfully be regarded as one of the most entertaining post-season matchups for the audience. Crosby and Ovechkin are tied for the lead in post-season goals with 10 each, and are currently holding on to the first and second place in points respectively. Likewise, Evgeni Malkin has been spectacular for the Penguins with 8 points in this series and a total of 17 playoff points. Naturally, the Capitals would be favored to advance due to game seven being played in Washington. On the other hand, both teams have shown throughout the series that they are not afraid to play on the road and are able to win crucial games in a hostile environment. Thus, NHL fans can expect a very close and physical game seven on Thursday at Verizon Center in Washington.
