Pittsburgh Penguins v Toronto Maple Leafs Live

Heading into the season with hopes to elevate their game to the next level, the Maple Leafs experienced two rather unsatisfying regular season games in the first week of play. Losing to the Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals while allowing ten goals combined, the squad of coach Ron Wilson is under a lot of pressure to perform better on the defensive end of the ice. Unfortunately, the Leafs will face the defending Stanley Champions from Pennsylvania and might have a tough night trying to limit Sydney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on Saturday at 11 p.m. GMT.

The Pittsburgh Penguins on the other hand had a perfect season start after celebrating their Stanley Cup win over the summer. Even though the first two games in 2009-10 were very close, the Penguins still managed to come out on top narrowly beating the New York Islanders and New York Rangers 4-3 and 3-2 respectively. As expected, franchise centerpieces Crosby and Malkin continued to cause chaos in their opponents’ defense and combined for 3 goals and 5 points in said games.

Even though the Maple Leafs had no problems scoring thus far, their defense seemed unorganized and weak versus the Capitals and Canadiens. Therefore, facing the dynamic offense of the Penguins could ask too much of Toronto’s defensive lines. Nonetheless, Jason Blake and the Maple Leafs will try to put pressure on Pittsburgh’s goal and hope to dodge some bullets on the defensive end of the ice. Either way, the audience is bound to see an exciting game between two teams rather focusing on offense than defense at Air Canada Centre on Saturday night.
