Sunday 21st November 00:00 - 03:00 GMT
Although some thought that the Flyers overperformed when they made it to the Stanley Cup Finals last year, Mike Richards and company demonstrated that they are one of the better teams in the leagues as they won 12 out of 19 games so far. Thus, the Philadelphia Flyers will head to D.C. where they will meet Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Sunday at midnight GMT.

While the Caps experienced some problems in the first two weeks of regular season action, the team around Alex Ovechkin subsequently elevated its level of play and never looked back. More specifically, Washington posted an impressive 14-4-1 record and showcased exciting up-tempo hockey as they rallied to the first place in the Eastern Conference. Where as the strong performance of All-Star Alex Ovechkin is no surprise, Alexander Semin's dominant play has been rather unforeseen as the left wing recorded 14 goals and 11 assists for a total of 25 points in 19 appearances. For the reasons mentioned above, the Caps will certainly enter their encounter with Philly as undisputed favorites to extend their winning streak on Sunday night.

Posting a 6-2-2 record to start the season, the Washington Capitals are very content with their performance in the first month of this year’s NHL campaign. Thus, the team around Alexander Ovechkin is confidently heading into their home game versus the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday at 11 p.m. GMT.

Although the Capitals’ came a bit slow out of the gates, the team quickly bounced back and pulled off a four-game winning streak which brought them right back to the top of the Eastern Conference. Especially in their 3-2 overtime win versus the Islanders the Caps demonstrated a lot of spirit as they rallied back from being down 2-0 in the third to secure a clutch win on the road. Being one of the best offensive teams in the league, Washington had no trouble finding the net so far, but showed some shortcoming at the defensive end of the ice. Allowing 3.0 goals per contest, the Capitals are still trying to find their rhythm defensively. Particularly impressive has been the performance of franchise cornerstone Alexander Ovechkin who scored 9 goals and added 8 assists for a total of 17 points in just 10 games.
Much like the Caps, the Philadelphia Flyers did not get off to an overly exciting start but subsequently won two straight last week. One bright spot has been the play of recently acquired veteran defender Chris Pronger who played well defensively and put up 8 points in 8 appearances thus far. Likewise, forwards Jeff Carter and Mike Richards underlined their importance for the franchise with 10 points each. Yet, whether the Flyers will be able to come away with a win in D.C. remains to be seen. Playing a similar style of offensive minded hockey, Philly also had some problems defensively. Either way, both teams might find themselves on a level playing field when the game gets underway on Tuesday.
