Ottawa Senators v San Jose Sharks Live

Holding on to a fifth place in the Eastern Conference, the Senators' front-office is fairly content with the performance of their team two months into the season. Hoping to secure another win, Daniel Alfredsson and company will face the high-scoring San Jose Sharks on Wednesday at 3:30 a.m. GMT.

Much like in 2008-09, the Sharks turned out to be one of the most dominant teams in the league thus far. In fact, the team from California looks even more dangerous since San Jose managed to acquire All-Star forward Dany Heatley. Although the Sharks just experienced a humiliating 7-2 blowout versus the Chicago Blackhawks, they are still the best offensive team in the league. Putting up 87 goals in 26 games, hardly any opponent found a way to stop the Sharks' explosive offensive lines. Especially Dany Heatley and Joe Thornton have been on fire as they combined for 25 goals and 37 assists for a total of 62 points so far.

The Ottawa Senators on the other hand are mainly concerned with making it to the playoffs in this year's NHL campaign after losing Dany Heatley to the San Jose Sharks during the off-season. In the first eight weeks of play, coach Corey Clouston's squad managed to establish themselves right in the playoff mix as the Senators posted a respectable 12-7-3 record. Most surprisingly, Ottawa did not experience any significant drop-off in their offensive production despite the absence of Heatley. Even more impressive is said circumstance if one considers that Jonathan Cheechoo and Alexei Kovalev underperformed considerably, scoring only 4 and 10 points respectively. Taking everything into account, it looks like the Sharks might have a slight edge over the Senators but will most likely have to work harder for a win than they are used to. After all, Ottawa has shown numerous times that they are a tough opponent to overcome and can play well at both ends of the ice.
