Even though the Rangers won just one out of three games at home in the first three weeks of regular season action, the team around Marian Gaborik played excellent hockey on the road as they rallied to a 4-2-1 record. That said, New York's defensive performance was not quite as good as in the past and remains an area of concern going forward. Nonetheless, Marian Gaborik and the New York Rangers are highly motivated to secure their fourth consecutive win when they meet the Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre on Saturday at 11 p.m. GMT.

The Maple Leafs on the other hand have hardly anything to complain about as they lead the Northeast Division with five wins in eight games. Considering that Toronto was the worst team in the Eastern Conference in 2009-10, Leafs' fans experienced a positive surprise up to this point. Especially Toronto's pressure at the defensive end of the ice was much better and kept opponents to just 2.4 goals per contest. Therefore, fans around the NHL can look forward to a contested game between the Rangers and Leafs on Saturday night.

While many questioned the Rangers’ off-season moves during the summer, very little criticism is to be heard after New York’s phenomenal first two weeks of action. Only dropping one game, the team of coach John Tortorella has played extremely well and is hoping for another win on the road versus the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday at 11 p.m. GMT.

In contrast, the Leafs had a very tough time so far and posted a rather disappointing 0-4-1 record. Given the fact that the undisputed goal of the franchise from Ontario is a post-season appearance, Toronto is under considerable pressure to get their act together and start accumulating points. Most importantly, the Maple Leafs’ defense turned out to be a mess and allowed a whopping 24 goals in their first five games.
While fans in Toronto had very little to celebrate thus far, the Rangers appear to be on their way to the upper echelon of the Eastern Conference. Even though there was some concern regarding the health of injury plagued forward Marian Gaborik, the All-Star rightwing from Slovakia showed that he is ready to play. In fact, Gaborik leads the Rangers with five goals and nine points in six appearances.
Taking everything into consideration, it appears to be rather unlikely that the Leafs will clinch their first victory of the season versus the New York Rangers on Saturday. Nonetheless, Toronto can be expected to come highly motivated onto the ice after suffering a humiliating 7-2 blowout at Madison Square Garden last week. Unfortunately for the Maple Leafs, the Rangers seem to have found their rhythm offensively and are still taking pride in the solid defense they are known for.
