While some might have thought that the Canadiens Stanley Cup Finals appearance last year was a fluke, the team around Brian Gionta continued to play excellent hockey as they rallied to a 4-2-1 record early in the season. Thus, the Montreal Canadiens will play John Tavares and the New York Islanders on Wednesday at 11 p.m. GMT.

Three weeks into the season, it looks like the Islanders made some progress over the summer and could indeed be a legitimate playoff candidate in this year's NHL campaign. More specifically, John Tavares and company posted a 4-2-2 record to start the season and are right at the top of the Eastern Conference. Especially the Isles' performance at the offensive end of the ice has been remarkably good as the squad of coach Scott Gordon has been averaging no less than 3.3 goals per contest. Therefore, NHL fans can expect an entertaining and contested game between the Habs and Islanders on Wednesday night.

Coming off back-to-back wins at home, the Montreal Canadiens are hoping to extend the winning streak in their upcoming homestand at Bell Centre. Thus, the Habs will host the struggling New York Islanders on Monday at 11 p.m. GMT.

Given the fact that New York Islanders finished last year’s NHL campaign at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, their fanbase was hoping that number one overall pick John Tavares would change the franchise’s future for the better. Yet, the Islanders once again failed to deliver and got off to a slow start with a disappointing 1-4-3 record. Nonetheless, Tavares has been spectacular so far as he scored three goals and added four assists in his first eight NHL games. However, it looks highly unlikely that the Islanders will be competing for a playoff spot unless they get their act together defensively. More specifically, the franchise from Long Island is among the worst teams in the league at the defensive side of the ice with 3.6 goals allowed per contest.
The Montreal Canadiens on the other hand just bounced back from a five-game losing streak and went on to win two straight at Bell Centre. Given the fact that Montreal’s offense around Scott Gomez, Michael Cammalleri and Brian Gionta is very capable of finding the net, the Isles’ defense will most likely have their hands full with work on Monday night. Especially Cammalleri performed extremely well, recording two goals and five assists thus far. Considering said circumstances, John Tavares and the New York Islanders will have to improve significantly to avoid their eight loss of the season when they face the Canadiens in front of their home crowd.
