Albeit the Devils are one of the lowest scoring teams in the entire league, Jamie Langenbrunner and company managed to stay in the race for home-ice advantage up to this point of the season. Thus, the New Jersey Devils will face John Tavares and the New York Islanders on Sunday at midnight GMT.

Unlike the Devils, the Isles are still rebuilding their team from scratch and appear to be bound for another year in the draft lottery. More precisely, the Islanders are just 14th in the Eastern Conference, posting a mediocre 26-31-8 record. That said, the young team from Long Island showed some progress in 2009-10 and did not play nearly as bad as in last year's NHL campaign. Especially, number one overall pick John Tavares could be an essential part for the franchise from New York for years to come. In 65 appearances, the rookie from Canada recorded 17 goals and 18 assists for a total of 35 points.

The Devils on the other hand once again benefited from the veteran leadership of franchise cornerstone Martin Brodeur to win games at the defensive end of the ice. In fact, New Jersey is the best defensive team in the entire league as they held their opponents to just 2.4 goals per contest. Even though the squad of coach Jacques Lemaire did not play particularly well offensively, the Devils still managed to score down the stretch and to close out contested games. Leading all scores is left wing Zach Parise who scored 30 goals and 65 points in 63 appearances thus far. Taking everything into account, the Devils will definitely enter their encounter with the Isles as everyone's favorites to clinch a victory in Long Island on Sunday night. Ultimately, the Islanders lack the defensive consistency and experience to compete with the veteran squad from New Jersey.
