Even though the Sabres have not been playing particularly well in the past two weeks, the team around Tim Connolly is still right in the mix for home-ice advantage as they are holding on to the first place in the Northeast Division. Hoping to overcome their rivals from New Jersey, the Buffalo Sabres will take on the Devils at HSBC Arena on Thursday at midnight GMT.

Much like Buffalo, New Jersey played very convincingly in this year’s NHL campaign and can be considered a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. Most importantly, Martin Brodeur and company turned out to be the best defensive team in the league, holding their opponents to just 2.2 goals per contest. That said, the Devils won just two out of their last six and had considerable problems finding the net consistently on the road. Offensively, Zach Parise leads the team with 23 goals and 28 assists for a total of 51 points in 50 appearances.
Trailing New Jersey by just two points, the Sabres are highly motivated to climb up to the second place in the Eastern Conference with a win versus the Devils on Thursday night. Considering how coach Lindy Ruff’s squad performed thus far, a victory over their tri-state rivals is certainly not beyond the realms of reality. More specifically, Buffalo also heavily relies on efficient defense to win hockey games while struggling at the other end of the ice at times. Ultimately, both teams appear to be on a fairly level playing field and can be expected to showcase an excellent game of hockey at HSBC Arena on Thursday.
