Considering that the Flyers entered this year's playoff campaign as seventh seed in the East, very few would have thought that Philly would all the sudden find itself being just two games away from an appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals. Thus, the Philadelphia Flyers will host Brian Gionta and the Montreal Canadiens in game five of the Western Conference Finals on Monday at 11 p.m. GMT.

Similarly, hardly anyone expected the Canadiens to knock out Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals and subsequently eliminate the defending champions from Pittsburgh in the second round. However, Montreal has another tough task ahead of them as they trail the Flyers 2-0 in the Conference Finals and will have to pull off another run to even the series and possibly advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. So far, the Canadiens performance has been equally terrible at both ends of the ice as they failed to find the net in the first two games while allowing Philadelphia to score no less than nine goals.
The Flyers on the other hand are in an excellent position to close out the series as they would have to win just one of their two upcoming road games to take a commanding 3-1 series lead. That said, one should keep in mind that the Canadiens faced similar situations versus the Penguins and Capitals and showed that they can play very well under pressure. Either way, fans around the league can expect an entertaining hockey game when the game between Montreal and Philadelphia gets underway on Monday night. Both teams are fairly even and can be expected to play with a lot of energy in order to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Without any doubts, hardly anyone would have expected that the seventh seeded Flyers would make it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals and, even more surprising, enter the series with home-ice advantage. Thus, Mike Cammalleri and the Montreal Canadiens will face the Philadelphia Flyers at Wachovia Center on Tuesday at 11 p.m. GMT.

When the Habs up set Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals in the first round it seemed like a miracle that was unlikely to happen again anytime soon. Yet, the Canadiens went on to continue their high level of play in the Eastern Conference semifinals as they took on Sydney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Albeit the team around All-Star Evgeni Malkin already led the series 3-2, Montreal somehow managed to bounce back, forcing a game-seven shown. Despite playing on the road and arguably being the inferior overall team, the Habs managed to come away with an impressive 5-2 win to advance to the Conference Finals.
Similarly, very few thought the Flyers could make any noise in this year's playoff campaign. After all, the franchise from Pennsylvania managed to defeat the New Jersey Devils in the first playoff round before shocking the Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. More precisely, Marc Savard and the Bruins were already up 3-0, possibly thinking of a run to the Stanley Cup Finals, when Philadelphia suddenly found its rhythm and was able to win four straight to clinch a 4-3 series win. Taking said circumstances into account, the encounter between the Canadiens and Flyers is still anyone's series as both teams should find themselves on a level playing field. Both played exceptionally well in the post-season and are fairly even as far as individual talent, teamplay and defensive energy are concerned.
