Snapping a five game losing streak with a 2-1 win versus the Atlanta Trashers earlier this week, the Canadiens will try to make a run in their upcoming five-game homestand. Unfortunately, their next opponent will be the New York Rangers who turned out to be one of the best teams in the first three weeks of action. Thus, the game between the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers will get underway at Bell Centre on Saturday at 11 p.m. GMT.

Although the Habs got off to a good start with two straight wins to open the season, they subsequently experienced a series of humiliating losses, including a 7-1 blowout versus the Canucks. Most importantly, the team around Scott Gomez seemed to lack consistent offense as they scored a meager 17 goals in 8 contests. Even though Montreal lost Alexei Kovalev and Saku Koivu during the off-season, one would be inclined to think that the acquisition of Brian Gionta and Michael Cammalleri should improve the Canadiens overall offensive output. Nonetheless, the team around Marian Gaborik showed a solid defensive effort on most nights and is one of the best offensive teams in the league at 3.9 goals per contest. Especially Marian Gaborik and Vaclav Prospal have been unstoppable, combining for 23 points already. Taking said circumstances into account, the Canadiens might have a hard time avoiding another loss as the Rangers will be all fired up to bounce back from their embarrassing loss versus the Sharks. That said, the Canadiens could give the Rangers a run for their money provided they manage to find the net and contain New York’s dynamic offense.
