Sunday 20th February 23:00 - 02:00 GMT
Arguably one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, the Montreal Canadiens showed their ability to perform under pressure when they secured a 4-3 overtime win in their season opener in Toronto. On Wednesday at 1 a.m. GMT, the Canadiens will be in Alberta to face the Calgary Flames in an all Canadian match-up at Pengrowth Saddledome.

Even though the Flames finished the season with a respectable fifth place in the Western Conference last season, things might be more difficult in this year’s NHL campaign. Most importantly, they lost their primary offensive threat Michael Cammalleri and were unable to sign a replacement on the free agent market. More specifically, Cammalleri will be wearing a Canadiens’ jersey and will be highly motivated in his first return to Calgary. Given the fact that the Canadiens also signed Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta it was no surprise that the franchise from Quebec managed to beat the Maple Leafs in their season opener.
Taking the aforementioned circumstances into consideration, it appears to be a justified assumption that the Flames will have a hard time overcoming the Montreal Canadiens. While the teams might have been even last year, the balance clearly shifted in favor of Montreal during the off-season. Nonetheless, the Flames will be able to count on the enthusiastic support of their fans at home and are hoping to upset the favorites from Quebec.
