After opening the season with an unsatisfying loss versus the Colorado Avalanche, the San Jose Sharks seem to become more comfortable with their overhauled roster. Coming off a win in Anaheim, the Sharks are looking forward to holding on to their positive momentum when they will face the Minnesota Wild on Sunday at 2:30 a.m. GMT.
Even though Minnesota lost their first game of the season 2-1 versus the Columbus Blue Jackets, the team did not look all that bad with their new up-tempo system of head-coach Todd Richards. In fact, the Wild had a total of 33 shots on Columbus’ goal, but were unable to use their scoring opportunities more efficiently.
In contrast, the Sharks are still getting used to changes to their offensive lines after All-Star Dany Heatley was acquired from the Ottawa Senators a day before preseason started. However, Heatley appears to start clicking more with his fellow line-mates Joe Thornton and Devin Setoguchi as he added two assists in San Jose’s 4-1 victory in Anaheim. Another positive aspect so far has been Patrick Marleau who followed up his career best 38-goals in 2008-09 with three goals in the first two games of this year’s NHL campaign.
Taking said facts into account, the match-up between the San Jose Sharks and Minnesota Wild should be fairly entertaining for hockey fans around the league. Both teams prioritize offense at any cost and have their fair share of capable scorers. Unfortunately for the Wild, the Sharks undoubtedly have more individual talent on their bench and can count on the support of their fans at HP Pavilion on Sunday night.
