After back-to-back wins versus the Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, the Edmonton Oilers are confidently entering a three-game homestand. Their first opponent at Rexall Place will be the struggling Minnesota Wild who only managed to secure one victory so far. Thus, the game between the Oilers and Wild will get underway on Saturday at 1 a.m. GMT.

Although the Minnesota Wild are not regarded as a safe bet to make it to the postseason in 2009-10, their performance thus far has still been somewhat disappointing. Losing three out of four games, the Wild will most likely have a tough time trying to bounce back during their three-game road trip. Most importantly, scoring has been an issue as the team of coach Todd Richards only averages 2.5 goals per contest. Given the fact that the Wild’s defense is far from outstanding it is no surprise that they have been struggling in the first two weeks of play.

In contrast, the Edmonton Oilers got off to a good start into the 2009-10 season and are holding onto a 3-1-1 record. Even though the goaltending of newly acquired goalie Nikolai Khabibulin has not been as good as expected, the Oilers’ offense was very efficient and put up 3.8 goals per game. While many may be tempted to focus on Mike Comrie’s five points, Edmonton’s scoring has been distributed very evenly so far. In fact, thirteen players have scored at least once for the Oilers.

Taking everything into consideration, the Edmonton Oilers will be entering the match-up with the Wild as the undisputed favorites to clinch another win. Where as the Wild did not perform well on either side of the ice, the Oilers have shown a tremendous team effort and high energy level throughout the first two weeks of action. That said, it is not beyond the realms of reality that Minnesota could steal a win in Alberta, but the odds do not favor the team around Eric Belanger.
