After back-to-back wins versus the Edmonton Oilers and Minnesota Wild, the Stars now enjoy a comfortable 4 point lead over the Phoenix Coyotes in the Pacific Division. Hoping to stay in the race for home ice advantage in the remainder of the regular season, Brad Richards and the Dallas Stars will face the struggling Los Angeles Kings at American Airlines Center on Tuesday at 1:30 a.m. GMT.

Albeit the Kings played some electrifying up-tempo hockey early in the season, the team around Anze Kopitar subsequently slowed down and has fallen all the way to the tenth place in the Western Conference. In fact, Los Angeles managed to win just one of its last eight games is now trailing the eight seeded Colorado Avalanche by three points. While the Kings remain one of the better overall teams on the ice, they have to do a much better job of closing out contested games down the stretch. Without any doubts, the Stars exceeded everyone's expectations as coach Marc Crawford's squad won five out of eight games and showcased exciting up-tempo hockey night in and night out. Thus, the Dallas Stars are hoping to keep up their level of play when they host Anze Kopitar and the Los Angeles Kings on Friday at 0:30 a.m. GMT.

Even though the Kings started this year's NHL campaign with a tough schedule and many road games, the team around Anze Kopitar managed to post an excellent 6-2-0 record and leads the Pacific Division after three weeks of play. One key to success was the Kings' performance at the offensive end of the ice, averaging no less than 3.1 goals per contest up to this point. Therefore, Anze Kopitar and company will confidently continue their road trip when they face their division rivals from Dallas on Friday night.

Even though the Kings dropped a game versus the Rangers on the road, the franchise from California is still holding on to a very decent 4-2-0 record. Continuing their seven game road trip, L.A. will head to Texas to meet the Dallas Stars on Tuesday at 0:30 a.m. GMT.

Given the fact that neither the Dallas Stars nor the Los Angeles Kings were remotely close to making a post-season appearance in 2008-09, one has to give the front-office and coaching staff a lot of credit for their performance so far. Establishing themselves in the playoff mix early in the season, both teams are hoping to keep up their high level of play and stay in the playoff race until the end of the regular season.

There has been a heated debate about the lack of clutch plays and inability to perform under pressure in Dallas after the Stars dropped three out of four overtime games in the first two weeks of play. However, coach Marc Crawford’s squad bounced back from said losses with an impressive 6-0 win versus the Nashville Predators. So far, the Stars showed some improvements offensively, putting up 4.0 goals per contest. Most importantly, Brad Richards and Brenden Morrow underlined their will to carry the team as they scored 10 and 7 points respectively. Even though Dallas’ defense has not been outstanding at 2.8 goals per game, it did not hurt the team particularly bad either.

Taking everything into consideration, it looks like the Los Angeles Kings and Dallas Stars will be on a level playing field on Tuesday night. Both teams have proven that they have no trouble finding the net and are willing to play hard on both ends of the ice. Although the Stars’ defense has been a tad better so far, it remains to be seen whether it will have any measurable impact on the match-up with the Kings. Either way, fans around the league can expect an entertaining match between two young teams due to make a leap in 2009-10.
