If someone had said before the season that the Los Angeles Kings and Columbus Blue Jackets would be at the top of the Western Conference after two weeks of play, he would probably have been laughed at. However, things turned out differently as both teams got off to a surprisingly great start into this year’s NHL campaign. On Saturday at 11 p.m. GMT, the encounter between the Kings and Blue Jackets will get underway at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.

After making their first post-season appearance in franchise history last year, the Blue Jackets appear to be dedicated to continue their recent upswing. Coming off back-to-back wins versus the Calgary Flames and Phoenix Coyotes, the team around Rick Nash has shown a tremendous defensive performance thus far. In fact, Columbus managed to hold their opponents to just 11 goals in five games and was able to make big plays on the other end of the ice when it mattered. In the first two weeks of action, Rick Nash led the Blue Jackets with two goals and nine points as well as providing the necessary leadership to close out contested games.

Holding on to a four-game winning streak, the Los Angeles Kings showcased exciting up-tempo hockey thus far and look like they could stay in the playoff race down the stretch. Carried by the offensive firing power of Anze Kopitar and Ryan Smyth, the Kings surprised many experts around the league with their level of play thus far. While Kopitar scored four goals and ten points in five contests, Ryan Smyth added another four goals and eight points. Yet, it remains to be seen whether the Kings or Jackets will come out on top in their encounter on Saturday night. Where as Los Angeles mainly relies on offense to win games, Columbus appeared to prevail due to their shutdown defense. Either way, the audience can expect an exciting game of NHL hockey when the Kings and Blue Jackets will meet at Nationwide Arena.
