Saturday 5th February 00:00 - 03:00 GMT
Unlike the Devils, the Florida Panthers have showed some signs of improvement in the first week of the 2009-10 season. Even though the team around Stephen Weiss and David Booth lost their opener 4-0 versus the Chicago Blackhawks, they managed to bounce back two days later as they clinched a clutch 4-3 win. Thus, the Panthers will host the winless New Jersey Devils at BankAtlantic Center on Saturday at 11 p.m. GMT.

Constantly being at the bottom of the league in recent years, not much was expected from the Florida Panthers before the start of this year’s NHL campaign. However, the franchise from southern Florida showed that they might not be such an easy opponent as last year. Even though the team does not feature any All-Stars, it is not beyond the realms of reality that a solid team effort night in and night out could lead to being in the playoff mix in 2009-10.
On the other hand, the New Jersey Devils have proven outstanding consistency throughout the past two decades and made twelve straight post-season appearances, including one Stanley Cup championship in 2000. However, they did not get off a good start and suffered to straight home losses versus the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the squad around Zach Parise can certainly play better than they did in the first week and could very well bounce back versus Florida on Saturday night. While the Panthers might not be quaking in their boots, it appears to be a justified assumption that they are entering the games versus the Devils as underdogs.
