Only being able to win one out of three, the Edmonton Oilers are hoping for a win in Nashville to avoid getting stuck at the bottom of the Western Conference. Thus, the team from Alberta will head to Nashville where they will take on the Predators on Tuesday at midnight GMT.

Without any doubts, the Nashville Predators got off to a good start as they managed to defeat the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche in the first week of action. Only allowing two goals each, the team of coach Barry Trotz showed a very strong performance on the defensive end of the ice and surprised many by the unexpected strength of the Predators. However, Nashville will most likely have to travel to Edmonton without Jean-Pierre Dumont who suffered an undisclosed injury in the season opener versus Dallas. In 2008-09, Dumont led the Predators scoring sheet as he was able to record 16 goals and 49 assists for a total of 65 points. In his absence Jason Arnott took over and scored two goals and four points in the first two games of the season.

Similarly, the Oilers will also enter the game short-handed as they are preparing for a few weeks without veteran defender Sheldon Souray. In the past, Souray has not only proven to be an essential part of Edmonton’s defense but also showcased excellent scoring abilities. Last year, he scored no less than 30 goals and dished out 23 assists for 53 points in 81 regular season appearances. Even though the Oilers’ losses were nail-biters, the team will have to work on closing out games to become a serious playoff contender. Whether they will be able to defeat the Predators remains to be seen considering that Nashville played much better team hockey so far.
