Since the Oilers' humiliating last place finish in last year's NHL campaign, the franchise's front-office has been in rebuilding mode to ensure that the team gets back on track sooner rather than later. So far, the team around forward Dustin Penner has been playing fairly well, overcoming the Calgary Flames as well as the Florida Panthers in the first week of action. Thus, the Edmonton Oilers will try to steal one on the road when they take on Mikko Koivu and the Minnesota Wild on Friday at 0:30 a.m. GMT.

Unlike the Oilers, Minnesota did not get off to a good start into the season as Mikko Koivu and company lost twice in a row versus the Carolina Hurricanes last week. Especially at the offensive end of the ice the performance of the Wild left much to be desired and will eventually have to get better in order to become a real playoff candidate. That said, Minnesota will have a chance to get back on track when they face one of the weaker defensive teams on Friday night.
