Albeit the Islanders missed the post-season last year, number one overall pick John Tavares showed that he is an excellent hockey player and is most likely going to be the team's centerpiece for years to come. Having acquired two further first round picks this summer, the franchise is confidently entering this year's NHL campaign. Thus, the New York Islanders will host Brad Richards and the Dallas Stars at Nassau Coliseum on Saturday at 11 p.m. GMT.
The Stars on the other hand surprised everyone when they decided not to give former franchise cornerstone Mike Modano a one-year extension which ultimately led to Modano signing with the Detroit Red Wings. After all, Modano had been playing for the Stars no less than 20 years and recorded a total of 557 goals and 1359 points in 1459 NHL games. With him out of the picture, center Brad Richards will be the undisputed leader on the ice and will most likely have a tough time leading the team back to the playoffs in 2010-11. That said, the Stars could very well be able to steal one on the road if they play up to their potential versus Islanders.
