Thursday 13th January 01:30 - 04:30 GMT

While it looked like the Avs were about to repeat last year’s success, the team around Paul Stastny lost its momentum and struggled significantly over the past month, including four consecutive losses last week. Hoping to elevate their level of play and to make it back to the playoff race, the Colorado Avalanche will host Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks at Pepsi Center on Tuesday at 2 a.m.

The Hawks on the other hand have been playing solid hockey as of late and are hanging on to the fourth place in the Western Conference, posting a 16-12-2 record. Especially Patrick Sharp is having a good year as he scored 17 goals and added 13 assists for a total of 30 points in 29 regular season appearances. Thus, Chicago will try to extend its winning streak when they face the Avs on Tuesday night.

Considering that the Colorado Avalanche finished 2008-09 at the bottom of the league, it is certainly surprisingly that the team around Paul Stastny is still in the playoff race at this point of the season. Thus, the Colorado Avalanche will host Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday at 1 a.m. GMT.

Much like Colorado, Chicago's performance in 2009-10 also exceeded the expectations of most experts around the league. More specifically, the Hawks are currently second in the Western Conference and could even clinch the number one playoff seed if they overcome the San Jose Sharks in the remaining four regular season games. Unlike other elite teams, Chicago showed that they can compete equally well at either end of the ice as they rank among the best teams in the NHL in both categories. Offensively, the team was led once again by right wing Patrick Kane who recorded 29 goals and 84 points while appearing in all 78 regular season games.

The Avalanche on the other hand are still hoping to secure a playoff spot down the stretch. As of now, Colorado is in a head-to-head race with the Calgary Flames for the eight place in the West as both teams are separated by just two points. However, the Avalanche appear to have a slight advantage after pulling off a clutch 5-4 overtime win versus the San Jose Sharks. Still being the heart and soul of the franchise, Paul Stastny leads all scores with 19 goals and 76 points thus far. Therefore, the Avalanche could very well give the Hawks a run for their money on Saturday, although there appears to be no doubt that Chicago is the better overall team.
