While recent years showed that a number one overall seed does not necessarily translate to success in the playoffs, Vancouver demonstrated that they have no intentions of slowing down in the post-season. Looking for their second win at home, Henrik Sedin and the Vancouver Canucks will play the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday at midnight GMT.

Given the fact that the Hawks are the defending Stanley Cup champions, the team around Patrick Kane is certainly under a lot of pressure to perform in the post-season despite their rather poor eight seed in the Western Conference. However, Chicago already experienced a 2-0 loss in their series opener in Vancouver and will have to play much better hockey in game two to avoid falling behind any further. Most importantly, the Blackhawks’ defense will have to find a way to shutdown Daniel and Henrik Sedin who are once again among the best forwards in the entire league. Therefore, Chicago can be expected to bring its A-game when the Hawks’ encounter with the Canucks gets underway on Monday.

Albeit the Canucks are coming off two straight road losses in Buffalo and Pittsburgh, the team around All-Star Daniel Sedin is still holding on to an excellent 10-5-3 record and the third place in the Western Conference. Thus, the Vancouver Canucks will try to get a win when Patrick Sharp and the Chicago Blackhawks are in town on Sunday at 3 a.m. GMT.

Given the fact that the Hawks are the defending Stanley Cup champions, the team around Patrick Kane has certainly failed to live up to everyone's expectations. More specifically, Chicago came slow out of the gates and posted a mediocre 10-9-2 record in the first two months of regular season play, including five losses in the last eight games. Especially their defensive performance was significantly worse than in 2009-10 and led to some problems early in the season. Offensively, the Blackhawks' most efficient player turned out to be Patrick Sharp who recorded 11 goals and 21 points up to this point. Therefore, Chicago will most likely have to improve its efforts to avoid a loss in Vancouver on Sunday night.

Despite being in a tough position in game five of the Western Conference Semifinals, the Canucks managed to steal one on the road and cut the deficit to 3-2 in order to stay in the series. Thus, Daniel Sedin and the Vancouver Canucks will try to force a game seven showdown when they host the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday at 1:30 a.m. GMT.

In contrast, the Hawks will have to get over game five as soon as possible and focus on the task at hand. More precisely, the franchise from Illinois could advance to Conference Finals if they manage to beat the Canucks on Wednesday night. After all, Chicago has shown that they are up to the challenge as they were able to win three straight after a 5-1 blowout loss in the series opener. Most importantly, Patrick Kane and company will have to use their opportunities more efficiently as they made it past goalie Robert Luongo just once in game five, despite a total of 37 shots.
The Canucks on the other hand are hoping to hold on to the positive momentum they built with their 4-1 road win in Chicago to even the series. Albeit Vancouver has played some entertaining hockey all year long, the team around Henrik Sedin failed to perform consistently in the Conference Semifinals thus far. Especially their intensity at the defensive end of the ice left much to be desired at times as they allowed no less than twelve goals combined in game three and four. Either way, fans around the league can expect a hard-nosed battle when the game between Vancouver and Chicago gets underway on Wednesday night. With both teams being on a relatively level playing field, the Canucks are looking to get a lift from the support of their home crowd at General Motors place.

Without any doubts, life has not been easy for the Canucks since franchise centerpiece Daniel Sedin went down a week ago. However, Vancouver managed to go 2-1-0 without him thus far and is hoping to clinch another win on the road when they face the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday at 0:30 a.m. GMT.

Although the Hawks came slow out of the gates, it did not take them long to get their act together. More specifically, the team around Patrick Sharp is leading the Central Division with five wins in eight games. Especially Chicago’s offense has been on fire, averaging 3.6 goals per contest in the first three weeks of play. Scoring ten points and seven points respectively, Kris Versteeg and Patrick Sharp played up to their potential and underlined their central role in the franchise’s goal to reach contender level. That said, the team will have to play better at the defensive end of the ice as they allowed nearly three goals per game so far.
In contrast, the Canucks are still struggling to live up to everyone’s expectations as they posted a mediocre 3-4-0 record to start the season. Given the fact that Daniel Sedin is currently sidelined it remains to be seen whether the team from British Columbia will have enough firing power to climb out of their slump. Thus, the Blackhawks will be entering their matchup with the Vancouver Canucks as favorites to clinch a win in front of their home crowd at United Center on Thursday night.
