Friday 18th March 01:30 - 04:30 GMT
Given the fact that the Hawks are tied with the Sharks for the first place in the Western Conference, there is very little to worry about in Chicago these days. Trying to steal one on the road, the Blackhawks will meet the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Wednesday at 1 a.m. GMT.

Obviously, the Stars’ front-office was very disappointed when they failed to make it to the post-season in 2008-09 and was hoping for a major leap after Joe Nieuwendyk took over as General Manager during the off-season. Although Dallas did not improve as much as they expected, Brad Richards and company are still in the playoff race as they hold on to a 16-10-11 record and the eight place in the Western Conference. One major problem has been the mediocre defense of the Stars that allowed no less than 113 goals in just 37 games thus far. Considering that coach Marc Crawford’s squad had no trouble finding the net, it would be desirable to minimize defensive breakdowns in order to make it back to the upper echelon of the league. Offensively, All-Star Brad Richards led all scores with 10 goals and 32 assists for a total of 42 points in 35 appearances.
The Blackhawks on the other hand are very content with the way things went down in the opening ten weeks of this year’s NHL campaign. More specifically, Chicago’s young team is right at the top of the Western Conference and can rightfully be considered a championship contender. Playing extremely well on both ends, the team around Patrick Kane does not have any major shortcomings and turned out to be a difficult match-up for any team in the league. The only possible weakness could be the Hawks lack of experience that might become a factor down the stretch. Yet, there is no doubt that the Blackhawks will enter their encounter with the Stars as everyone’s favorites to clinch another victory on Wednesday. Albeit Dallas’ offense has had its moments, Chicago is the much better overall team and should come away with a win in Texas under normal circumstances.
