Chicago Blackhawks v Anaheim Ducks Live

Being right at the bottom of the Western Conference, the Anaheim Ducks are under considerable pressure to bounce back after losing seven of the last ten games. Unfortunately, the Ducks are about to face another tough challenge when their encounter with the Chicago Blackhawks gets underway on Friday at 9 p.m. GMT.

The Chicago Blackhawks on the other hand won seven straight and played extremely well at both ends of the ice. Defensively, the Hawks fed of the excellent performance of their goaltenders as Cristobal Huet and Antti Niemi only allowed 2.16 and 1.85 goals per contest respectively. Likewise, Chicago had no trouble finding the net and benefited from their fairly even offensive lines that distributed the workload among many shoulders. Yet, right wing Patrick Kane was able to separate himself from the pack as he recorded 9 goals and 14 assists for a total of 23 points in just 22 games.

Unlike the Hawks, the Ducks had very little to smile about in the past few weeks. More specifically, Anaheim is ranked last in the Western Conference and will have to perform significantly better in order to make it back to the playoff race. Although Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf and Teemu Selanne have been spectacular offensively, the Ducks had very little support from their role players. In fact, the aforementioned three players account for nearly half of the Ducks’ goals while the rest of the team has been mediocre at best. Even more importantly, Anaheim’s defense has been unable to contain their opponents at all and allowed a whopping 3.5 goals per contest. Taking everything into consideration, the Blackhawks seem to have an edge over the struggling the Ducks. That said, Patrick Kane and company should not underestimate the franchise from California. Albeit the Ducks might not be a good defensive team, their offensive lines are as capable as anyone on a good night.
