In contrast, the Calgary Flames posted a solid 40-32-10 record last year which would have been good enough for a sixth place finish in the East. Yet, in the competitive Western Conference the Flames only finished tenth, missing the post-season for the first time since 2003. However, the franchise's management appears to be fairly confident that their current squad is capable of making a major step forward this year as Calgary decided not to make any major changes over the summer. That said, John Tavares and company will be no easy opponent either and could very well force the Flames into a highly contested hockey game on Thursday night.
