Calgary Flames v Anaheim Ducks Live

Even though the Flames lost several contested games in the last two weeks, they are still third in the Western Conference and lead the Northwest Division ahead of the Colorado Avalanche. Thus, Jarome Iginla and the Calgary Flames will try to secure another home win versus the Anaheim Ducks on Monday at 1 a.m. GMT.

Unlike the Flames, the Ducks did not live up to everyone’s expectations as they struggled to stay in the playoff race. That said, Ryan Getzlaf and company showed some improvements as of late and were able to win four in a row last week. However, Anaheim has still considerable problems to perform defensively and relies to a large extent on their offense to win games. Obviously, Getzlaf, Perry and Selanne are excellent forwards to build around, yet staying in the playoff mix down the stretch will most likely require a more consistent effort on the defensive end of the ice.

Calgary on the other hand turned out to be one of the better defensive teams in the league and held their opponents to just 2.4 goals per contest. Feeding of said defensive effort, the Flames rallied to a 26-14-6 record and are right at the top of the Western Conference halfway through the season. At the other end of the ice, left wing Jarome Iginla led the franchise from Alberta as he scored 21 goals and 42 points thus far. Likewise, Rene Bourque is having the best year of his career, putting up 17 goals and adding 20 assists for a total of 37 points in 40 appearances. Taking everything into consideration, Calgary appears to be everyone’s favorite when the game between the Ducks and Flames gets underway on Monday night. Nonetheless, the Flames should not underestimate Anaheim as the team around Ryan Getzlaf has shown countless times that their dynamic offense can be a tough match-up for anyone in the league.
