Where as the Sabres lead the Northeast division, Marco Sturm and company are barely holding on to the eight playoff seed in the East. Thus, Mark Recchi and the Boston Bruins will try to stay in the playoff race when they host the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday at midnight GMT.

Considering that most experts around the league did not expect the Sabres to compete for home-ice advantage in this year's NHL campaign, Buffalo's front-office is certainly content with the performance of coach Lindy Ruff's squad up to this point. More precisely, the Sabres are third in the Eastern Conference as they went on to post an excellent 40-22-10 record. Especially their performance at the defensive end of the ice has been phenomenal, keeping their opponents to just 2.5 goals per contest.
In contrast, the Boston Bruins did not even remotely live up to the expectations of their fan base and are still struggling to secure a playoff spot. Just two points ahead of the ninth placed Atlanta Trashers, the team around Patrice Bergeron experienced significant problems finding the net as the Bruins are among the worst offensive teams in the entire league. Thus, Boston's leading scorer Bergeron recorded just 16 goals and 31 assists in 65 appearances. Taking said circumstances into account, the audience can expect a hard-nosed battle between two defensive minded teams. Even though the Sabres might be the better overall team they will have to bring their A-game in order to steal one on the road on Tuesday night.
