Saturday 22nd January 20:00 - 23:00 GMT
Although the Avalanche had a terrible season last year, they really pulled their act together in the first week of this year’s NHL campaign. Surprisingly clinching two straight wins, Joe Sacco’s squad seemed to stick better to their game plan and showed a tremendous team effort. Thus, they will travel to Massachusetts to face the Boston Bruins at TD Banknorth Garden on Monday at 5 p.m. GMT.

Unlike the Colorado Avalanche, the Boston Bruins already had their ups and downs when the season got underway last week. More specifically, they lost their season opener versus the Washington Capitals 4-1 but subsequently bounced back with a 7-2 blowout win versus the Carolina Hurricanes two days later. Even though the Bruins are one of the most talented teams in the Eastern Conference, they will have to show up more consistently as a homogenous unit if they plan to make it to the top of the conference again in 2009-10. One pleasant surprise so far has been center Steve Begin who posted three assists in Boston’s opening two games.
Taking everything into consideration, the Avalanche will enter this game as underdogs even though they might have played better hockey than the Boston Bruins thus far. Most importantly, it still seems questionable whether Colorado will be able to keep up their high level of play on a daily basis. That said, Boston undeniably has more talent on their bench and will benefit from the support of their home crowd on Monday night. Nonetheless, the Avalanche will hope that high-scoring center Paul Stastny will carry them to a win on the road with a stellar performance at TD Banknorth Garden.
