Even though the Trashers came slowly out of the gates in this year’s NHL campaign, Dustin Byfuglien and company made a run to the sixth place in the East as they posted six straight wins over the last two weeks. Thus, the Atlanta Trashers will do their best to keep said winning streak alive when they play Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Sunday at midnight GMT.

Leading the Eastern Conference with a 17-6-2 record, the Caps once again showed that they are one of the best overall teams and are confident to feed off the positive momentum they built with their strong performance over the last month. Most importantly, Washington’s offensive lines around Alex Ovechkin and Alexander Semin steamrolled their opponents and put up no less than 3.4 goals per contest so far. Likewise, their power-play efficiency has been off the charts as they managed to score on almost every fourth 5-on-4 opportunity. Considering the way the Capitals have been playing in recent weeks, there is no doubt that anything else than a comfortable home-win at Verizon Center would be a huge surprise on Sunday night.

Albeit the Trashers struggled defensively, the team around Nik Antropov still managed to win three out of five to start the season and avoided falling behind early. Thus, the Atlanta Trashers will make their way to D.C. where they will try to steal one on the road versus Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Saturday at 11 p.m. GMT.

While there was no doubt that the Caps are one of the best offensive teams in the entire league, the team around Alex Ovechkin showed that they can also play excellent defense in the first two weeks of play. More precisely, Washington rallied to a 4-2-0 record as they held their opponents to just 2.3 goals per contest. Like in the past, franchise cornerstone Alex Ovechkin led the Capitals' offense, recording 4 goals and 4 assists for a total of 8 points. Taking Washington's performance so far into account, it looks like the Trashers might struggle to slow down the Caps who are hoping to clinch another victory in front of their home crowd.
