Considering that the Blues made it to the playoffs just once in the past five years, there is certainly a sense of urgency to get back on track in Missouri. In this context, it is no surprise that St Louis implemented significant changes in the coaching staff as well as in the franchise's front-office. However, a turnaround might not be that easy, especially since former All-Star Paul Kariya will sit out the entire season due to a post-concussion syndrome. Thus, the St Louis Blues will try to avoid a loss at home when Teemu Selanne and the Anaheim Ducks are in town on Monday at 6 p.m. GMT.

Much like St Louis, the Ducks' front-office is not particularly excited with Anaheim's performance in 2009-10 either and is expecting a significantly better year in the upcoming NHL campaign. Albeit the Ducks have some explosive offensive lines around Ryan Getzlaf, Teemu Selanne, Saku Koivu and Corey Perry, their defensive performance left much to be desired last year. In this context, it is no surprise that Anaheim signed veteran defender Toni Lydman to a three-year deal worth about $9 million. Considering the issues of both sides, the Ducks and Blues appear to be on a fairly similar level of play and could very well be playing a contested ball game on Monday night.
