While some might have questioned the Predators’ ability to compete in the playoffs, the team certainly showed that they can execute under pressure as they lead the series 2-1 after three games. Confident to extend their lead, the Nashville Predators will meet Ryan Getzlaf and the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday at 0:30 a.m. GMT.

Earlier this year, everything pointed to the Ducks once again missing the post-season, but the franchise from California certainly pulled off a remarkable turnaround down the stretch. Not only did they make it to the playoffs, but also managed to secure home-ice advantage finishing fourth in the Western Conference with a 47-30-5 record. That said, the play of Teemu Selanne and company has not been all that exciting in the first round as they lost two out of three so far. Especially their performance at the defensive end of the ice has to become much better, up to this point, the Ducks gave up a whopping 3.7 goals per contest. Nonetheless, fans can most likely look forward to a fairly even game between two competitive hockey teams on Thursday.

After a surprisingly successful season in 2009-10, the Predators' front-office was able to further improve their squad as they acquired center Matthew Lombardi who is coming off an excellent year with the Phoenix Coyotes. Thus, the Nashville Predators will try to get off to a good start into this year's NHL campaign when they play Ryan Getzlaf and the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday at midnight GMT.

In contrast, the Ducks are not happy at all with their performance last year and are hoping to make it back to the playoff race in 2010-11. Considering that Anaheim's primary weakness is their lack of defensive intensity it was no surprise that the franchise signed defender Toni Lydman from the Buffalo Sabres to a three-year deal worth approximately $9 million. Likewise, if franchise cornerstones Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry spend less times sidelined by injuries the Ducks should be able to have a better year. Last but not least, veteran forwards Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu can be expected to make life difficult for the Predators on Sunday night.
