Out of the playoff picture once again, the Oilers' front-office appears to have accepted the team's disappointing role in the remainder of the season and is focusing on rebuilding from scratch. Thus, the Edmonton Oilers will try to avoid another loss at home when they take on Ryan Getzlaf and the Anaheim Ducks on Monday at midnight GMT.

In contrast, Anaheim improved considerably over the last two months after getting off to a horrific start into this year's NHL campaign. Right before the Olympic break, the Ducks find themselves back in the playoff race, trailing the eight ranked Calgary Flames by just two points. However, Anaheim's veteran team experienced some setbacks, partially due to their aging core players. More specifically, Scott Niedermayer, Saku Koivu and Teemu Selanne are still good players, but not the franchise cornerstones they used to be in the past. That said, Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry are still among the best forwards in the league as they recorded 57 points each.

The Edmonton Oilers on the other hand have very little to be excited about as they posted a disappointing 18-35-6 record and are by far the worst team in the league so far. Equally struggling at boths end of the ice, it will take some major changes during the summer to get the franchise from Alberta back on track. One of the few bright spots has been left wing Dustin Penner who scored 23 goals and added 23 assists for a total of 46 points 58 appearances. Yet, there is no doubt that the Ducks will enter their encounter with the Oilers as everyone's favorites to clinch a win at Rexall Place. Ultimately, Edmonton does neither have the individual talent nor defensive consistency to give Corey Perry and company a run for their money.
