Saturday 23rd October 23:00 - 02:00 GMT
Even though the Wings missed the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in three years in 2009-10, there is no doubt that the veteran team from Michigan will once again be among the title contenders in this year's NHL campaign. So far, Detroit has been playing solid hockey at both ends of the ice and posted an excellent 3-1-1 record to start the season. Thus, the Detroit Red Wings are confident to secure another home win when they meet Corey Perry and the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday at 11 p.m. GMT.

In contrast, things have not been going particularly well for the Ducks as Teemu Selanne and company lost five out of seven games so far and looked defensively unorganized at times. Allowing their opponents to score nearly 4 goals per contest, the Ducks will have to improve their defensive intensity to avoid another year out of the playoff race. Thus, the team around All-Star Corey Perry will try dodge a bullet when they face the Red Wings on Saturday night.

After a clutch 2-1 win in Anaheim, the Ducks are forcing the defending Stanley Cup champions into a deciding game seven. Thus, the Detroit Red Wings will host Anaheim on Friday at midnight GMT at Joe Louis Arena in Michigan.

In a hard fought game six, the Ducks were able to score the first goal of the game in the second period when Ryan Getzlaf converted a pass from Corey Perry. Later on in the period Getzlaf and Perry managed to extend Anaheim’s lead, this time Perry scoring on a beautiful feed from Getzlaf. Even though the Red Wings put a lot of pressure on the Ducks’ defense, they were still unable to put the puck into the net until only two minutes remained in regulation. It is no surprise that Detroit’s only goal was Johan Franzen’s effort, he already scored his 8th post-season goal in 10 appearances. Despite their loss nobody can blame the Red Wings for not bringing the energy and will to Anaheim in game six. In fact, they had a total 39 shots in the game but Jonas Hiller did a magnificent job of helping the Ducks to hold on to their lead.
Considering that the game seven show-down in Detroit will feature the Stanley Cup champions of the past two years the audience can certainly expect an excellent hockey game. Right now the Red Wings might have a slight advantage due to playing game seven at home. Moreover, coming into the post-season as number two seed they definitely were more consistent throughout the year compared to the Ducks who barely made it to the playoffs as eight seed. Nonetheless, Anaheim can be a dangerous team in any given game, especially when their outstanding scoring duo consisting of Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry is in shape.
