Considering the strength of the Canadian and Russian national hockey team, the Swedes are about to face a tough challenge as far as repeating their success of the last Olympic hockey tournament is concerned. Thus, their first task will be to overcome Marco Sturm and the German team when the first game of Group C gets underway on Thursday at 0:30 a.m. GMT.

Unlike Sweden, Germany is thrilled to even be at the 2010 Winter Olympics and is facing very little pressure to win any games. That said, the squad of coach Uwe Krupp has several talented players on their roster, such as Marco Sturm from the Boston Bruins and Jochen Hecht from the Buffalo Sabres. However, it appears to be rather questionable whether they will be able to give Sweden a run for its money. After all, Sweden is once again fielding one of the strongest teams in the entire tournament, led by Nicklas Lidstrom from the Detroit Red Wings and Henrik Sedin from the Vancouver Canucks. Likewise, former NHL All-Star Peter Forsberg and right wing Daniel Alfredsson from the Ottawa Senators can be expected to put a lot of pressure on the defensive lines of Germany.
