Facing the tough challenge of defending their title at the 2010 Winter Olympics, Sweden might have to improve as the tournament progresses. Thus, their first encounter with another contender will take place on Monday at 4:55 a.m. GMT when Nicklas Lidstrom and company face Finland.

Finland on the other hand got off to a great start as the team around Saku Koivu rallied to a convincing 5-1 victory versus Belarus. In fact, Saku Koivu recorded no less than three assists in said victory and certainly lived up to his leadership role. Likewise, Teemu Selanne from the Anaheim Ducks recorded his 36th assist at Olympic tournaments which ties the record previously held by Harry Watson. In contrast, Sweden had significantly more problems in their opening game, but still managed to overcome the underdogs from Germany with a clutch 2-0 win on Wednesday night. That said, the Swedes are capable of playing much better ice hockey and will most likely have to play up to their full potential to give the Finnish team a run for its money. Taking everything into account, both teams could find themselves on a fairly level playing field when the game between Sweden and Finland gets underway on Monday night.
