Russia v Czech Republic Live

Undoubtedly being one of the few teams that could prevent Canada from winning the gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics, Evgeni Malkin and the Russian hockey team got off to a great start with an 8-2 win versus Latvia. Looking for their second group stage win, Russia will face the Czech Republic on Sunday at 8 p.m. GMT.

Even though Russia entered the Olympic hockey tournament with a good chance to win a medal, the performance of Alex Ovechkin and company on opening night was very impressive nonetheless. More precisely, the Russian squad steamrolled Latvia as they were led by All-Star Alex Ovechkin who scored two goals. That said, the Czech team will be a much more difficult opponent and should be able to give the Russians a run for their money. Albeit Russia might be more explosive offensively, the Czechs can count on Tomas Kaberle to bring some defensive toughness. Likewise, the Czech Republic has two excellent goalies as Ondrej Pavelec from the Atlanta Trashers and Tomas Vokoun from the Florida Panthers will most likely be tough to overcome. Thus, it remains to be seen whether Sergei Fedorov and Alex Ovechkin will be able to put on another offensive show or if the Czech team will manage to clinch a much needed win on Sunday night.
