Albeit the Canadian national hockey team struggled considerably early in the tournament, Sydney Crosby and company were able to elevate their level of play as the 2010 Winter Olympics went on. Hoping to win Olympic gold in front their home crowd, Canada will face Patrick Kane and the United States on Sunday at 8:15 p.m. GMT.

Where as the Canadians experienced their fare share of problems throughout the Olympic hockey tournament, the American hockey team surprised many fans around the globe. More precisely, Jamie Langenbrunner and company did not only beat Canada during the group stage, but went on to steamroll their opponents in the subsequent elimination round. Especially their 6-1 blowout win versus Finland in the semi-finals showed that the American national hockey team is certainly able to play at both ends of the ice and perform down the stretch. That said, Canada also pulled off two excellent offensive games versus Germany and Slovakia on their way to the finals. Thus, it remains to be seen whether the U.S. will be able to contain Canada’s dynamic offense around Dany Heatley, Sidney Crosby and Jarome Iginla. Either way, the audience can expect a hard-nosed battle between two outstanding hockey teams on Sunday night.

After a solid performance versus Slovakia, Canada is confidently entering the finals of the Olympic hockey tournament. Thus, the team around Scott Niedermayer will take on the United States on Monday night. Although the U.S. had their fare share of problems in their opening game versus Switzerland, the team around Patrick Kane is still in an excellent position for the remainder of the group stage. Thus, the United States will take on Scott Niedermayer and the Canadian national hockey team in Vancouver on Monday at 0:45 a.m. GMT.

Unlike the U.S., Canada could not have hoped for a better start into the Olympic hockey tournament. More precisely, the Canadians clinched a 8-2 blowout win versus Norway on Tuesday, led by Jarome Iginla from the Calgary Flames who scored three goals. In contrast, the American hockey team had a surprisingly hard time overcoming Switzerland, yet they were able to come away with a 3-1 victory. However, there is no doubt that Canada will be everyone's favorite to beat the U.S. in front of their home crowd in Vancouver. Albeit the American team might have shown a solid defensive performance in their opening game, it appears to be highly unlikely that their defensive lines will have an answer for the dynamic Canadian offense around Sydney Crosby, Dany Heatley, Patrick Marleau and company.
