Belarus v Sweden Live

Before taking on their Scandinavian rivals from Finland on Monday, the Swedish team will first have to deal with the Belorussian squad around Mikhail Grabovski from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Thus, Peter Forsberg and company will meet Belarus on Friday at 8 p.m. GMT in Vancouver.

Even though Belarus is certainly not a medal contender, the team of coach Andrei Gusov has shown in the past that they are no easy opponent either. More specifically, the team has a few solid NHL legionnaires on their roster such as Mikhail Grabovski, Ruslan Salei and Andrei Kostitsyn. That said, the Belorussian national team is not nearly as deep as the Swedish squad which will enter the 2010 Winter Olympics to defend their title. Led by the Sedin brothers, Peter Forsberg and Nicklas Lidstrom, Sweden does not only have a lot of individual talent but also relies on their outstanding teamplay to win games. However, one issue could be goaltending since Henrik Lundqvist from the New York Rangers is not known for consistency. Nonetheless, Sweden will certainly enter their encounter with Belarus as undisputed favorites to come away with a victory on Friday night.
