Today the much anticipated nomination for this year’s Hall of Fame inductees took place and was subsequently made official by the NHL Hall of Fame committee. More specifically, former NHL All-Stars Luc Robitaille and Steve Yzerman will be honored for their extraordinary careers together with Brett Hull and Brian Leetch on November 9th.
Without any doubts, all of the aforementioned players deserve their place in the NHL Hall of Fame due to their tremendous achievements in their career. Center Steve Yzerman for instance played a total of 22 years in the NHL during which he won three Stanley cups and participated in no less than ten All-Star games. His veteran leadership was a substantial part of the Detroit Red Wings success which led to Yzerman being one of the very few players who was able to play his entire career for just one team. Likewise, he managed to make it into the Top 10 for goals, assists and points of the NHL career record list. In fact, Steve Yzerman finished his career with a total of 692 goals and 1063 assists for 1755 points in 1514 games for the Red Wings between 1983 and 2006.
Luc Robitaille on the other hand played for several NHL teams before he retired in 2006 to join the Los Angeles Kings’ management. Throughout his 19 years in the league he played for the L.A. Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings. In 1431 games he was able to score 668 times while adding 726 assists for a career total of 1394 points. His 125 points in 1992-1993 are still a NHL record for points scored by a left-wing in a single season. On top of these outstanding numbers he played in eight NHL All-Star games as well as winning a Stanley Cup championship together with Steve Yzerman for the Red Wings.
